No inicio da noite desta quinta-feira, o grupo hacker Anonymous anunciou pelo Twitter, apos o fechamento do site Megaupload, que os Estados Unidos deveriam \"espera-los\". Nas horas subsequentes, os hackers divulgaram em seu perfil @anonps diversos de seus feitos, conhecidos por \"Tango Down\". Ate o fim desta quinta-feira, o Anonymous retirou do ar os sites da Universal Music, do Departamento de Justica dos Estados Unidos, da Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA), do FBI, da associacao de chefes de Policia do estado de Utah e ate o site de registro de copyrights. \"Pegue uma pipoca... Sera uma longa noite divertida\", publicou o grupo em sua conta.
Chamada de \"Operacao Represalia\" pelos hackers, tambem identificada por #OpMegaupload no Twitter, o ataque seria o maior ja realizado pelo Anonymous, com mais de 5 mil pessoas - 5.365 por volta das 21h30 - usando o programa que executa os ataques de negacao de servico (DDoS, na sigla em ingles), conhecido por LOIC. Ate a meia-noite, estavam fora do ar os sites http://www.justice.gov/, http://riaa.org/, http://www.fbi.gov/ e universalmusic.com, entre outros que cairam, mas que voltaram a funcionar.
O fechamento da pagina de downloads aconteceu nesta quinta-feira pelo FBI (policia federal americana), apos uma investigacao de dois anos que resultou na prisao de quatro pessoas na Nova Zelandia pelo suposto crime de pirataria virtual. O grupo foi acusado de se envolver em um esquema que tirou das maos de detentores de direitos autorais em torno de US$ 500 milhoes e gerou mais de US$ 175 milhoes em rendimentos criminosos, de acordo com a acusacao revelada nesta quinta-feira. De acordo com o Anonymous, em seu perfil, a policia norte-americana teria ainda \"roubado\" os arquivos do Megaupload.
O FBI afirmou que a operacao encerrada nesta quinta nao tem conexao com o projeto de lei antipirataria promovido pelo Congresso dos Estados Unidos e que provocou o \"blecaute\" na quarta-feira de varias paginas em sinal de protesto.
